How a sign is made

Acrylic letter making

The pale face on these letters is acrylic. It is cut to the letter shape and set into a metal return, so the letter can be lit from inside.

Steel letter laser cutting

Steel for a letter return is cut from sheet on a laser bed. The head follows the drawing. This picture shows the laser cutting the sheet. It is not a weld.

Signage fabrication

The letter is finished on the bench. LED modules are fixed inside and the wires are joined. The sign is checked here before it goes to the shop.

ACP cladding

Aluminium composite panel is a thin sheet with two aluminium skins and a plastic core. The sheets cover the shopfront, and the letters are fixed on that face.

What a sign board from us includes

Ideal Signs has manufactured sign boards since 2006. A board from us is not a printed sheet on its own. We build the frame, the face, the lettering and, when you need it, the lighting, then fix it on the shutter, fascia, glass or wall.

Shops usually ask for a name board on the shutter or above the entrance. Offices ask for a reception board and a building name. Both start with the same three facts: the clear width, the clear height, and whether the sign must work in daylight only or through the evening.

Where we specify the materials, the sign is supplied with a 5-year guarantee from installation. Under normal circumstances manufacturing takes 3 to 7 working days after the design and the advance are agreed. Busy weeks can run to 10 or 15 working days, and we say so before you confirm.

Materials we actually use

The face may be acrylic, aluminium composite panel, stainless steel or a printed flex on a metal box. Letters can sit on the face or be cut through it. If the board has to glow, we fit LED modules inside and leave a way to reach the power supply later.

Send a photo of the wall or shutter with a person or a door in the frame so the scale is obvious. Add the height, the width and the unit in the form on this page. Those three numbers are what we price.

What to measure

Measure the clear opening, not the whole building. For a shutter board, measure the shutter width and the band above it. For a fascia, measure between the columns and note any AC drain or conduit in the way.
